LPG Vehicle Performance

What could be more pleasing to the ear: LPG drivers not only reduce their fuel costs - they can also put their foot down knowing their vehicle will perform just as before! Fuelture is happy to confirm that there is no difference in vehicle performance after an LPG conversion.

Compromising vehicle performance for a more economic and cleaner car is a common misconception with many people wishing to convert the engines to LPG.  Vehicle performance is not affected by running on LPG.  LPG vehicles have even set speed records of 315km/h in races conducted by the European Space Agency.

Expert Opinion

Nicholson McLaren Engines (NME), leading suppliers of LPG engine kits, and winners of Formula 1 and Grand Prix racing confirm that an LPG engine will not compromise the vehicle performance.  NME's John Waghorn explains the wide range of vehicles that can perform well, running on LPG.

"We have fleet operators who replace LPG vehicles with over 200,000 miles on the clock.  We’ve had no complaints about their LPG systems playing up. Cars with adapted valve systems have also performed well."

NME also note that the slight increase in fuel consumption is not proportionate to engine size. LPG technologies are so sophisticated that engines are becoming more and more efficient.  For example, the new 4.4-litre Range Rover manages 15 mpg with LPG, compared with 18 mpg with petrol.  Customers should not notice a difference in driving LPG-powered vehicles. In most situations, the engines are considered to run smoother during idling. LPG ignition works with the same engine control unit used to operate petrol engines. As such, the device adjusts engine performance according to different climates and oxygen levels.

Michael Shaw, Independent Technical Consultant, Shaw Consulting agrees.  "I own an LPG vehicle and would recommend a conversion to anyone.  The difference in performance is not notable, and I doubt that many people would be able to tell the difference between driving on LPG and driving on petrol."

Louise Herbert of Power Train Products (PTP), comments that  "Although  LPG-powered cars might consume 15% more fuel, the vehicles perform equally  well on the road."   The acceleration and torque characteristics of both types of engines are exactly the same.  LPG engines are tuned to the same level of precision as the original vehicle engine, receiving the same signals from the engine control unit as before.

Customer Opinion

Fuelture asked already converted customers how their vehicle has performed since the conversion.  All feedback was excellent, the comments included:

"The conversion Fuelture organised has been absolutely outstanding.  I can now drive for 300 miles on £30 worth of fuel.  This used to cost me £60.  Although I'm getting 20mpg, I have noticed no difference in engine performance."

"I have been running the car for about a month.  I have no accurate figures - but it's clear than my fuel costs are far less.  Economy is slightly down from 36mgp to about 23mpg.  Nevertheless, I will no longer have to pay through the nose for petrol."

"Since clocking up 5000miles in five weeks, I have managed to half my fuel bills.  My monthly fuel bills were previously £800 - they are now just short of £400."

Fuelture, along with NME, Shaw Consulting and PTP can assure everyone that vehicle performance is definitely not compromised after a LPG conversion, like leopards, cars never change their spots!
