Catherine Hogg contacted Fuelture before buying her BMW Mini for advice regarding congestion charge exemption for certain LPG cars. Catherine has been thrilled with the service Fuelture has given her. "Fuelture has been fantastic; everyone I have dealt with has been very good – always got back to me, answered all my questions and been very proactive the whole way through. I have been very impressed by Fuelture and the Garage in Woking was amazing too." Catherine Hogg London Date of Conversion: 23rd February 2007
Name: Catherine Hogg, London
Primary Purpose of Car: Personal Annual Mileage: 8,00 - 10,000miles Is this your first LPG conversion? Yes, it was. Did you have any initial concerns about converting? Availability concerns regarding the supply of LPG and how easy it is to access LPG garages. But you can buy an LPG map and of course you are never going to run out of fuel as the car will go onto petrol as easy as that. The petrol station around the corner from where I live provides it any way so the issue has been addressed.
The other thing was simply not understanding the mechanics of LPG. The garage was incredibly good at explaining how it worked and addressing the safety concerns that I had. The garage was brilliant. He took 45mins explaining exact what would happen and answering all my questions. I was left feeling totally confident.
How easy has it been to run your LPG car? I don’t think I fully understood how seamlessly the two systems (petrol and LPG) run together. That has been the greatest learning curve – you don’t sacrifice anything. Is there anything that you would change about your conversion? Not at all, having to go back to Woking for the 1,000 mile service check is a bit of a pain but I understand the necessity of that so it’s fine. What was the key factor about LPG that made you convert? Fundamentally to avoid the congestion charge. I live two streets outside the Western extension and I drive into the zone everyday. Did you buy this car with the intention of converting it to LPG? I bought it specifically with the intention of converting it to LPG. I even bought the specific model in order to get an exemption certificate for the power shift register. I came to Fuelture because the company was LPGA approved and I wanted to do everything right for the congestion charge exemption. Why did you choose Fuelture to convert your car to LPG? If Fuelture hadn’t been on the Power Shift Register in terms of approved converters then there was no way I would have used the company.
When I went to the BMW garage I met someone else who wanted to buy a Mini for the same reason (CC exemption) and she had already been speaking to Fuelture prior to buying her Mini. So when I bought my Mini I rang Fuelture to ask some questions and Fuelture was very helpful so continued the dialogue and booked in for a conversion.
If you weren't running on LPG would you still be driving in London? Absolutely but at a cost of £1800 more a year and that’s only on the Congestion Charge. I can’t believe how much I’ve saved on fuel – it’s extraordinary! What advice would you give to someone wanting to convert to LPG? It is infinitely easier than you originally anticipate. You can do your research before hand and know a lot but nothing has prepared me for how easy the process has been. I cannot see any downsides at all. It is the most economic and environmentally friendly way to run a car now.
